Literally slouched my way out of the bed this morning, late as ever. It felt pretty cold in my room.
Met Sophie in the kitchen - we talked a little bit about Halloween. Sophie sure does love the season event and that's cool since I always found the atmosphere of fear and horror to be really cool. In particular, Sophie is all about carving pumpkins (her favourite part of the process being to dig out the seeds - I thought she was being sarcastic).
Wondered off to the undercroft for Digital Skills - in my shirt. Boy was today's heat wave really odd, given that we Brits are now accustom to summer being over. Jon was a little late, but never mind. Jade's friend informed me she wasn't in due to a sickness. I've been touching a lot of wood, like now for instance, so I better not catch the flock of illness that's been swallowing up the campus.
In came Jon Hunt, and he guided into the room next door. Why? Better computers! Not just the hardware itself, but those damn fine wide-screen displays as well! I've never seen such wide computer screens before! (sans the iMac) Today was supposedly going to be quite a rush regarding both learning Photoshop techniques and making a piece out of it.
We were guided to downloading an Assets.rar document from Digital Skills Two (Should be One, as Jon was quick to point his mistake out) on MyUCA. But there wasn't a WinRAR program. To my surprise we extracted it using 7zip - one of the better compression methods out there and a program I haven't seen last in god knows how long. We extracted the documents into our own created folder, in the D drive.
What our group would ultimately make today was piece of old paper with a typeface on a wooden surface, and pins to hold it up. (Akin to a door sign) Step by step, Jon took us through the intricate processes of creating the piece which includes cropping, layer effects, duplication and other quirks.
I learnt some handy keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl + D being a god-send for deselecting the magic wand).
It was fast paced, and Jon must of felt quite flustered especially in regards to time. We had the option to further work on the piece until 3:30 when the next group waltzed in. I saw Su, again, and spurted Japanese at her that quite clearly left her speechless because she didn't understand a word of it.
Outside, cripes! I swear it got warmer. It's no surprise since nearly everyone was in at least shirts to even summer clothing. Back home, Rob was in the latter get-up. Chatted to Sophie in the kitchen again and she mentioned the obscene amount of ladybirds around. This place is probably a hotspot for their species kinky time. There WERE a fair amount going around though, and it was slightly gross in some aspects. I closed the curtain fully in my bedroom for instance, because A) I didn't want them to come in and B) seeing all of them flying around and crawling on the sill just looked bad. Shame that the sillouhettes of 'em still showed through.
Su responded to my wall post on Facebook (in form of inbox message) which brightened me up a bit. She hopes to get some help on her English despite there being no problems with it so far, but I was happy to offer up some support. Wonder if she'll get back to me, again.
Stir Friday today and off to Waitrose for yonder noodles and vegetable mix. I was avidly lost into a stupid song from Jet Set Radio - Sweet Soul Brother, for some odd reason. There was clearly a motive that brought this particular one up; it could of been that feel-good summer warmth today. At the check out I searched my wallet for the debit card and there was no sign of it to be found. Oh. I frantically looked into the coin pocket and luckily had some change instead. (thank GOD I kept it to just three items)
I got back and it only just occured to me that the pork needed defrosting. Brought it out and started a search investigation around my room for the MIA debit card. No signs of it - I initially recalled the last time using it was for the order of Dominos Pizza so it had to be in the room. Then I remembered Sainsbury's from yesterday and the self-check out. I dived for the phone and rang them up. Oh whoops, I called up Sainsbury's just outside Farnham despite the search result "sainsbury's farnham" giving me that number in particular.
Tried again when fighting with Google to give me the actual Farnham superstore and rung them up. Customer Serviced had indeed picked up on a debit card of my name from the self-check out. Really? It's surprised me because all the pin input machines I used before wouldn't process the transaction fully until the card was removed when prompted, so I went with the assumption I couldn't of left it in one.
Regardless I pranced my way to Sainsbury's and claimed my dearly beloved. The mistake in question happens a surprising amount, as I also heard. One girl working there claims she made the mistake of leaving it at self check-out four times. (She obviously wasn't aware I write a blog daily :<)
On the travel back I passed by a pastry and cake bakery again. The stuff on display looked expensive, but it succeeded in most occasions on catching my eye. I gave in and had to investigate. The prices didn't look outrageously expensive (£1.40 for a muffin could of been much worse) and the treats looked delicately and masterfully produced. The woman serving me was kind and sweet - she was from South Korea. I do want to visit that country at least once.
On the way out of the shop a surprise appearance - it was Sophie from G01! (Not housemate Sophie) We had a great long talk about the animation course outside. During which, many people that passed by kept saying a 'Hi' to her. How many people has she got to know! Of the things I found out from her, it seems I am unfortunately going to have to once again put up with conflicting opinions from staff. The 2nd year of BTEC Art & Design really pissed me off because of this, and I hope that occasion would be the last. She mentioned that ultimately you do what you think is right in creative light - it's true, and I believe her in that regard. 2nd year and beyond students also are subject to no more offers of on-campus accommodation from the University, as well. It's private accommodation from that point onwards.
I look forward to seeing Sophie's animations. She has both a 2 minute and 15 second one to do. (The latter due by 2 weeks, but I think she'll do it just fine)
Arrived back and brought out the pork for defrosting. I really should of started it yesterday in the fridge.
Sophie was cooking some tasty bacon, but still felt hung over from the Ministry of Sound last night. I discovered leaving pork OUT to defrost is a bad idea (obvious to some reading this) so I yanked up a bowl and placed the diced meat in cold water. Er, should be cold. I didn't discover until quarter of an hour later that the water was warm. Whoops, back again with some actual cold water. Even then however, too much of it was defrosting by that stage. Left it in regardless.
The kitchen was in a bit of a state and some asshole left his cerial bowl, including the MILK, in a sink of water. Rolled up my sleeves and got to work, starting with the table first. After the wok heated up enough and the pork felt defrosted to satisfactory amounts, I threw it onto the pan. Bubbles were frothing up like crazy however. I looked at the unfolding event in bewilderment like some sort of bizarre science experiment before my eyes. I pondered the cause: too much olive oil? The bowl left to soak in not rinsed fully? The...pork itself? It wasn't the time or place though - they were already cooking away. I just poured away the oil down the sink which is a stupid idea because if I recall now, oil was what caused the block up initially to begin with.
The finished result was tasty though. Housemates enjoyed it as well. Yannis cleaned up the kitchen which was great of him. Discovered that Jamie went back home for the weekend today, and tried a whiff of drugs last night. He also, when leaving the lecture theatre early today, screamed "FREEDOM!!" outside, unbeknownst that everyone would hear it. Nat also left again. What the crap? I swear she was only here for about 2-3 days this time. Last occasion she left, apparently, to go to her friend's birthday party.
Rob and Yannis were goofing around like usual. Rob was recording Yannis replicating a scene from Wayne's World, which I can't remember of despite loving that film. They were also playing with a mirror-effect on photo booth. I joined into the recording action but the laptop ran out of battery power. :(
PJ and Becky came around later this evening. They brought along another friend too - she's from Germany. Upstairs, they planned to play Poker. Louie was about to arrive but turned back around (as we could hear not only from PJ's phone but witness outside) to pick up the Poker set. I didn't join in because...I don't know. Guess I just didn't feel like it. Douche, ain't I? Instead I sat back playing Sonic 4.
Made Becky some tea to wake her up. I seem to offer her a lot of drinks but this is okay, it's nice to have somebody happily enjoying something from request. I can't wait for my practice in cocktails, too. She'll love that.
Outside, Sophie got her own back on Georgia with a prank fright. I believe I never mentioned this but one night, on Tuesday or Wednesday I think, Sophie somehow managed to spot a cat outside from the kitchen (she wasn't even anywhere near the window) and avidly darted out the house to see it. She was making good progress befriending it until Yannis scared it off, mightily pissing off Sophie. When she came back inside, Georgia and Rob were already in hiding spots. Georgia hid under the stairs and made scratching noises - this was enough to put Sophie past fear and close to terror. Rob finally popped the cork and burst out the shower room. I could hear the results very, very clearly.
