Monday inevitably became something of a borefest - but I suppose when working, that's what happens.
Rob rang the door at 10 to kick Yannis's ass for not realising they had no sessions today.
Typical wake up time past the eleventh hour. I wanted to save it for the right occasion, but I decided to try gelling my hair - every strand, all the way back. Not a bad look, and it saves me trimming so often. Last time I remember gelling the hair back was, I guess, six or so years ago.
Wanted to head up to the kitchen for ye olde tea but the ISS Cleaner was up and about doing her scheduled rotor. On average, the cleaners do their job in about 2-3 hours but she took quite a bit of time.
It's worth noting this is the same person who logged us for not only 'failing to remove items off the draining board' but also a cigarette end (ends, as the letter alters it to) on the floor and a blocked sink. Blocked sink, the problem we reported to Accommodation AND a replacement ISS Cleaner (nice guy) and we were logged for it again. The replacement also once mentioned the intended cleaner is a little bit anal in regards to keeping various things in check.
That said, the feared cleaner sure did spend her time cleaning...whatever she felt should of been cleaned. The floor needed a little bit more, true, and I wouldn't put it past her to log us (or more specifically Yannis) for the ketchup smeared somewhere on the bannister.
Stayed in my room waiting for the danger to pass, and spent some time working more on catching up with my diary strips. I have made some progress on one more. Why am I procrastinating like this? I'm sure I can do it...I just don't like having to start over and over on something. I kind of hate challenges, maybe.
Got some washing up POWDER this time from the super market and was set on getting my damn clothes washed. Shoved in my shirts, pyjamas and tea towels and set the wash to Colour. I hoped it was the right setting - I returned 45 minutes later where the process would finish and during that time I washed up the filter for the Dryer. It did look pretty dirty. Does it get like that after just one wash or do others really not bother? Kit was upstairs, and hung out. He's often not in during the day so it was a nice sight. Like Yannis, Georgia and Chris, he did not have any sessions today. In fact, nearly everyone didn't have any.
Back to the washing place and I was relieved to find my wear in stable condition. Into the dryer for another hour so. Saw a vending machine for condoms. ...really, now? Anyway, tried buying one and they were all out. :((
Called by Vicki on the way back - it still required me to run around the dilapidated labyrinth of the mainhall to find her office. She did drop by my details to Japanese students but typically they did not get back to me. (Supposedly because of academic work but I say it is shyness/disinterest) The Language Swap cafe may take off soon, which is great!
Yannis, Rob and Sophie disappeared for a bit. The man with that hyper afro called up to enquire with their whereabouts. I answered the door in a rather slouchy way and suggested maybe the skate park or library.
At 5:30 I got to work on a culinary piece that I've been meaning to make at University. Stu pot, Japanese ingredients, I started on making the Nikujaga (dubbed Mick Jagger because you know.) It's a meat and potato stew I first tried when Asako made it back at Chichester College. The taste stayed in my mind, it was really quite nice. My best friend Josh would scoff down Nikujagas at any time he'd be served one.
Close to making it, Natalie suddenly appeared. She vanished a week or two back, and to be honest, I was beginning to wonder if she'd return. Fortunately, she has done! And with a change in hair colour from blonde to dark brown. Nice seeing her again.
With the stew finished, I took some out to the others for them to try. Sophie and Yannis were the only two to do so but both seemed to of liked it. Yannis, Sophie, Rob, Georgia and PJ returned upstairs. Sophie grilled up some nice bacon but the other five in process just sort of mysteriously fell out onto the floor. Poor Sophie, she already lost some of her Coco Pops to the floor last night from an amazingly placed towel whip.
After a while and several more Digestive biscuits I chatted with Jamie, Natalie and PJ. PJ, that asshole! Microsoft invited him to the Press Conference (which wasn't very good!) held at E3 in Los Angeles. He got to play all sorts of video games and that just makes me filthily envious. This guy has a fanbase going on YouTube, and his videos get featured on the front-page from time to time. He's been commissioned by EA, Microsoft, Smirnoff and others to go and make commercials for them and was able to go other countries because of this. He's a real nice guy, though. I intend to chat more with him.
Went down to have a shower, and heard some noise going on outside in the communal halls. Arriving out in my dressing ground - people. Lot's of people. What the hell? When was this planned? JUST THEN? Well, they were all getting ready to watch a film there instead of the kitchen. Prompt knocks on my door perked my disinterest to interest. We watched a Spanish film - The Orphanage, on a MacBook. My poor eye sight plus an ability to read subtitles on a small screen typically did not work in my favours but what I did watch of the film regardless was pretty interesting and touching.
Yannis repeatedly had me in chuckles from the excessively loud noises he had to make from eating, drinking, all the way to swallowing.
Tomorrow is my time for Animation Principles. Do this comics have to be in for then? I hope not - but last time I heard it was over two weeks.
